Omaha Hiking Club offers opportunities to go kayaking as a group. Each year, we take a summer day trip to kayak the Middle Raccoon River with access in Redfield, Iowa. We have also camped overnight near Valentine, Nebraska to float on the Niobrara. To receive updates on hikes and other activities, please send us an email.

Snow Shoe or Cross Country Ski outings are scheduled when there is adequate snow fall. Locally, these events have been scheduled at Neale Woods and Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuge. Members attending these events are expected to bring their own gear and be adequately dressed to weather the elements. OHC members took the train to Winter Park, Colorado to spend the weekend snowshoeing and cross country skiing at Devil's Thumb Ranch.
Other events that the Omaha HIking Club has scheduled for members include horseback riding, ice skating and a scuba diving experience. We have also visited UNL's Behlen Observatory and taken a day trip to Ashfall Fossil Beds. If you have any ideas for future events, or have access to host additional activities for our group please contact us via email.
Hike Leaders Michelle and Sheila conducted a workshop for Women in the Outdoors at the Carol Joy Holling Camp in Ashland, Nebraska. Hiking topics covered, included footwear/snowshoes, layering clothing, hiking poles, hydration/nutrition, sunscreen/bug spray and making preparations for a day hike. "Hiking Basics" was presented to Omaha Hiking Club members at Heron Haven Wetland . To schedule an Omaha Hiking Club presentation for your group, please send an email request.
We may run, walk, stumble, drive, or fly, but let us never lost sight of the reason for the journey, or miss a chance to see a rainbow on the way.
